Sail Maine
Maine may just be one of the best cruising grounds in the world, combining the best of ocean sailing, coastal islands explorations and spectacular mountain views. Wildlife sighting are a common occurrence and there is no shortage of safe harbors for your overnight or extended anchorage.
Boothbay Harbor, home to the Schooner Lazy Jack, has a variety of deep water docking and mooring options that can service the smallest dingy or deep drafted sailing vessels. For the motor vessel yachtsman, docking up to 180 ft. with a fueling dock that can support vessels up to 200 ft. is available.
Boothbay Harbor Marina and Carousel Marina monitor channel 9 and
will help direct you to your dockside and fuel tie ups and moorings.
Browns Wharf Inn and Tug Boat Inn also have docking and moorings
available. Shops and restaurants are just a short dinghy or launch ride
to the public landing.
The cruising season in Maine is fairly short from June to late September. Prime boating season is July to mid-September. Warm days and cool evenings, lots of shopping, great food, championship golf and night time entertainment makes Boothbay Harbor one of the best destinations on the Maine coast.
Boothbay Harbor celebrates Windjammer Days featuring the Windjammer parade of sail on June 25th of local and visiting windjammers.
From Boothbay Harbor, Rockland Maine is a day sail away and features during its summer season the Lobster Festival July 29-August 2 and the North Atlantic Blues Festival July 11-12.
Heading for Rockland there are two approaches. Chart book Casco Bay to Camden will give specific details along with Lat/Long Waypoints for GPS navigation. Exiting Boothbay leaving Ram Island Light to starboard you can follow a course that leaves Pemaquid Point to port passing through Muscongus Bay to a new course through Muscle Ridge Channel to the Owls Head Light into the waters of Rockland, Or follow the chart staying in the shipping lane on the outside of Muscle Ridge Channel that sails through Bush Channel, making a turn NE towards West Penobscot Bay. Once beyond the Owls Head Light make a turn NW to Rockland Harbor. The beautiful town of Camden where the mountains meets the sea is just a few short nautical miles NE Rockland and is home to several historic working schooners.
